It’s officially Opening Night of the NBA Summer League! The California Classic starts with a pair of games tonight, and the Salt Lake City Summer League starts tomorrow.

NBA Summer League is generally one of the most profitable leagues in sports betting for a variety of reasons. Last season, we ended the Summer League up +15.77 units, so let’s do it again!

NBA Summer League PrizePicks Slip

I sent this slip out to subscribers last night, and the lines have each shifted a point in our favor. I still think they’re playable at the current numbers, but obviously you always want to get the best numbers possible. GL if you tail!

Cameron Carr

• Elite scorer in a breakout season for Baylor

  • Averaged 18.9 PPG

  • Shot 49.4% from the field, 37.4% from deep, & 80.1% at the line

• Lakers could’ve LOADED their Summer League roster, but didn’t

  • This is clearly Carr’s team

    • Should have the keys to the offense

  • Carr and Adou Thiero should be the focal points of the Summer League for LA

    • Zhaire Smith is a wildcard who can take games over

    • Peter Suder is another potential offensive piece, but obviously behind those three

    • Chris Manon, Arthur Kaluma, AK Okereke, and Robert McCray will all get looks, but they’re more defensive-minded players rather than anyone who will take over the offense

  • Carr was viewed as a steal late in the first round, and he could immediately contribute to LA this season

    • Best way to integrate him is a successful SL run, where he’s focusing on doing what he does best - scoring

  • Biggest concern is Smith, who truly has high-end offensive upside, and if he takes the game over, it could limit Carr

Will Richard

• High-level scorer with NBA experience

  • Posted 20+ points in multiple games as a rookie, including a 30-point performance vs SAC

• Golden State asked Richard to add muscle during the offseason

  • Solid way to show that physicality is getting to the rim

    • Granted, not the best part of his game, but it’s a potential spot to work on in a setting like the Summer League

• Golden State broke their players up into two teams - Gold & Blue

  • GS loaded the Gold team

    • Richard, LJ Cryer, Yaxel Lendeborg, & Lajae Jones will be the focal points of their Summer League

      • Although any one of those four could find scoring success, Richard feels like the obvious option

      • Lendeborg & Jones are generally tentative to take games over [or were in college]

      • Cryer is the most likely to take over the offense behind Richard, but we’ve seen him be tentative last year in the Summer League

• The big question is - Does Richard even need the Summer League?

  • He’ll play because of his age & experience level, but I’m not entirely sure Richard isn’t too good for the Summer League at this point

Conclusion

We already got a couple points of value here, but that doesn’t mean the numbers are too high yet. I’m fine if you’re looking to play them at their current prices (1 point above what we got last night).
